The Twin Brothers Who Arrived Minutes Apart Yet Looked Completely Different

Posted on September 21, 2026 By newsful 365

The delivery room had barely settled when Stacy realized something was very different about her newborn sons.

She and her husband, Babajide Omirin, had expected twins. They had not expected the boys to look so dramatically different.

Two brothers, one extraordinary surprise

The couple from Lagos, Nigeria, welcomed Daniel and David on February 26, 2019.

Daniel arrived with dark skin and curly black hair. David had extremely light skin and golden-colored hair.

The boys were born only minutes apart.

Stacy later recalled being stunned when a nurse told her the second baby had golden hair. She looked down and saw a baby who looked completely different from his brother.

The surprise did not stop in the delivery room.

According to Stacy, strangers sometimes struggled to believe that both children belonged to the same family. Some even asked her which child was hers.

Her answer was simple: both.

The medical explanation changed everything

Doctors later identified David as having oculocutaneous albinism.

The condition affects the body’s production of melanin, the pigment responsible for much of the color in the skin, hair and eyes. It can also affect vision and increase sensitivity to sunlight.

That helped explain why David’s appearance differed so dramatically from Daniel’s.

It also gave Stacy a new concern.

She wasn’t only thinking about why her sons looked different. She was thinking about how people might treat David as he grew older.

That concern has a real medical and social context. People with albinism can face health challenges involving vision and protection from ultraviolet exposure. In some communities, they can also experience discrimination.

“Which one is yours?”

The family’s unusual story eventually attracted widespread attention.

Photographs of Daniel and David showed just how striking their differences were. Yet the two boys shared the same parents and grew up together as brothers.

Stacy has described the attention as something she eventually learned to handle.

People would stare. Some would ask questions. Others simply wanted to understand how two children from the same parents could have such different appearances.

The answer lies in genetics and pigmentation, not in any mystery about their parentage.

What We Know

Daniel and David Omirin were born in Lagos on February 26, 2019.
Daniel was born with dark skin and curly dark hair.
David was born with very light skin and golden hair.
David was reported to have oculocutaneous albinism.
Albinism results from genetic changes affecting melanin production.
The condition can cause vision problems and increased sensitivity to light.
Stacy has said people sometimes question whether both boys are hers.
Why This Matters

The story is striking because appearance can make people assume they know a family’s story when they don’t.

Daniel and David’s differences became visible immediately. Their relationship did not.

Their birth also illustrates something important about albinism: it is a genetic condition involving pigmentation, not an indication that someone belongs to a different family or has a different parentage. MedlinePlus notes that oculocutaneous albinism can occur when both parents carry certain genetic variants, even when the parents themselves do not have the condition.

For Stacy, the experience became about more than explaining her children’s appearance.

It became about raising two brothers who happened to enter the world looking remarkably different—and making sure other people’s questions never defined who they were.

And for anyone meeting the family for the first time, the answer to “Which one is yours?” remains the same:

Both.
